At the World Exhibition in Paris in 1889, he presented a speedometer and an electric odometer—devices now present in every car and truck.

At the time, he called the device the Velocimeter, which accurately measured distance traveled, the number of stops, time spent stopped, and the number of passengers. Today, this device is known as the tachograph. Back then, it was referred to as the “small and faithful servant to the master while the coachman drives the carriage.” Journalists present at the first test on the Trieste–Sveti Bartol–Trieste route were impressed by the device’s precision and the amount of driving data it recorded on paper.
